NU Start is the shared web platform behind many of Northeastern University’s colleges, campuses, academic initiatives, and institutional websites.
As Northeastern expanded across new campuses, programs, and initiatives, the platform needed to scale alongside it while maintaining a consistent experience for editors, designers, and visitors.
Building from Northeastern’s brand standards, designers and developers worked together to create a shared foundation of components, patterns, and editorial tools. This empowered our team to design, develop, launch, and support websites more efficiently while giving colleges, campuses, and initiatives the flexibility to evolve their sites as their needs changed.
I served as Technical Lead, helping shape the systems, workflows, and tooling that allowed teams across the university to build and maintain websites more effectively.
The goal was simple: build shared systems once, then enable teams across the university to use them effectively.
These are some of the sites powered by NU-Start, each sharing a cohesive aesthetic while expressing a unique twist on the NU brand guidelines.
-

Program Syncing
A synchronization and page-generation system that transformed authoritative university data into reusable platform content. Program information stayed accurate, consistent, and available throughout the NU-Start ecosystem.
-

Featured NGN Stories
A reusable integration that brought Northeastern Global News directly into the NU-Start ecosystem. Editors could surface current stories without duplicating content or maintaining separate publishing workflows.
-

Dynamic Grid System
A reusable framework for building content-driven experiences across the NU-Start platform. One system powered news, events, academic programs, faculty directories, landing pages, and more.
